Is wearing a helmet always compulsory?
We believe that safety is a priority regardless of legal obligations; we therefore recommend that you always wear a protective helmet when riding and during stable activities.
Do I have to wear a helmet if I’m only doing horse-trekking?
It is always recommended to wear a protective helmet when riding a horse.
From what age is it possible to use helmets?
KEP Italia helmets are suitable from the very first experiences in the saddle. Thanks to the internal padding system it is possible to choose the correct size, according to the size of the rider's head. It should be borne in mind that the choice of the appropriate model depends on the head size and not on the age of the rider.
Is there a helmet for children?
The KEP Italia helmet designed for children is the Keppy model. The Keppy line has been designed for novice riders with a fit from size 49 to 53.
How much does a basic helmet cost?
KEP Italia's entry level model is the SMART, available at a price of € 334,00.
Does the size of the helmet coincide with the circumference of the head?
The size of the helmet coincides with the circumference of the head. You can check with a tape measure: place it over your ears and take note of the measurement in centimetres to the middle of the forehead. (Link to the dedicated section)
Can I use a friend's helmet?
Thanks to the padding system designed exclusively by KEP Italia, it is possible to use a friend's helmet, as long as you check and/or have padding of the correct size. However, we believe it is preferable to have your own helmet, with padding suitable for the morphology of your head, of which you know the conditions of use.
Can I change the helmet padding? How much does it cost and where can I buy it?
The padding can be changed. There are different types of padding that change in shape and characteristics (lighter and more breathable endurance padding, suitable for summer activities; winter padding with earmuffs). The padding, which can be easily removed and repositioned inside the helmet, is available from our authorised dealers and/or from our online shop.
Can the helmet’s chinstrap be changed?
The helmet's chinstrap is replaceable. Being a critical component of the helmet, the helmet must be sent to the manufacturer for replacement.
Is it possible to change the helmet’s front insert?
Normally it is not possible to replace the helmet’s front insert. For any structural intervention, we recommend that you contact Customer Care so that they can give you targeted feedback.
Is it possible to replace the helmet visor with one of a different size?
It is possible to replace a standard visor with a Polo visor, this operation must be done directly by the company.
In the event of a fall, if the helmet breaks, is that a good indicator of its quality?
The helmet breaking following a collision/impact is an indication of quality and high standards of protection. By breaking, the helmet absorbs the impact preventing the latter from damaging the rider's head.
Should the helmet be replaced in the event of a fall? Or can it be repaired?
KEP Italia recommends that the helmet be subjected to technical inspection by our company in the event of a fall, to check for any invisible damage affecting the safety of the device. Following the technical check, a report will be provided with information on the possibility of repairing the helmet. For more information, we recommend that you contact your dealer and/or contact the Customer Service.
What should I do if my helmet breaks or gets damaged?

Are the basic model helmets less safe?
All Kep Italia helmets are subjected to strict controls by safety certification bodies and equipped with the same certifications and approvals.
Are there geographical limits to the consignment of helmets?
There are no limits to KEP Italia's national and international consignments. In some cases there may be restrictions on the entry of goods dictated by the legislation of the country of destination.
What is CITES?
CITES is a necessary document, required for placing helmets with python inserts in non-EU countries. The certificate costs around € 100.00; an average time of two/three weeks is required for its issue.
What tests are KEP Italia helmets subjected to to test safety?

Where can I buy the protective helmet bag?
The protective helmet bag can be purchased from authorised retailers and/or from the KEP Italia online shop.
Which models are best suited to cross country?
The Cromo and E-light models in the versions with cross-country visor are recommended for the cross-country discipline as they are recognised and approved by the International Federation.
How to clean my helmet?
You can clean your helmet with the special "Kep Clean" supplied at the time of purchase, alternatively with a soft cloth moistened with water. No detergents and/or products of any kind should be used to clean the helmet.
In the case of velvet helmets or inserts, we recommend using the special brush supplied.
If the helmet gets scratched is it possible to repair it?
Depending on the extent of the damage, it may possible to intervene to reduce it. It is difficult to get the helmet back to its original condition without replacing the damaged components. In the case of scratches, we recommend that you contact your dealer and/or the manufacturer for technical feedback. It is strongly recommended not to try to intervene on the helmet before having consulted the manufacturer. Can the chinstrap be damaged?
The soft, eco-leather chinstrap is subject to a natural process of wear. For proper maintenance, we recommend cleaning it with a damp cloth after each use.
To avoid damaging the material, do not use detergents, alcohol or solvents. Products such as perfume, aftershave and creams (which contain alcohol) can damage the chinstrap.
Can the components on the helmet, covered with materials such as python, leather and other finishes, be damaged?
All leathers are sensitive to light and sudden changes in temperature, rain, etc. etc.
Even if treated in accordance with European laws that protect the environment and health, they are not wholly waterproof and therefore may undergo colour changes over time. The peculiarity of hides is precisely that of being alive; these changes must be considered as a virtue and not a defect.
